In a statement from the Force Headquarters Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector General of Police commended the bravery of personnel who resisted the attackers.

“In a decisive response to the recent explosion attack at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, on January 9, 2025, at approximately 12:10 am, which led to the deaths of two police officers—Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat—the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the attack and ordered an immediate and thorough crackdown on the perpetrators. Any attackers of police will face justice,” he said.

“The IGP expresses heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen officers, assuring that their sacrifice will not be forgotten, and their benefits and entitlements will be swiftly provided to their families,” he added.

Egbetokun also instructed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to mobilize resources and personnel in collaboration with other security agencies to apprehend the culprits.

“The IGP has directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to ensure the perpetrators of this heinous act are apprehended and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” he emphasized.

He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining law and order and ensuring that those who disrupt security are held responsible.
