Addressing reporters at a press conference held at the command’s headquarters in Ilorin, the State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, disclosed this remarkable achievement. He also revealed the apprehension of 28 suspected cultists within the last two weeks, who are currently detained at the Oke-Kura Correctional Center in Ilorin.
The press conference saw the parading of 11 suspects allegedly involved in various criminal offenses, ranging from kidnapping and armed robbery to attempted culpable homicide and phone theft. Items seized from the suspects included firearms, ammunition, charms, and an international passport.
One notable case highlighted by Commissioner Victor involved the arrest of Isah Umaru, who confessed to the kidnapping of four victims. Among them were Atilola Sarafa, Mrs. Afusat Lawal, and two children, Lawal Taofik and Lawal Aliyu. The victims were abducted from different locations, with ransom demands made using Mr. Sarafa’s phone.
In another intriguing case, the police uncovered a self-kidnapping scheme orchestrated by Wasiu Afolabi, who pretended to be abducted to extort money. Collaborating with the Kwara Command Anti-Kidnapping Squad, the police arrested Wasiu Afolabi and Moshood Sulaiman, a POS operator involved in facilitating financial transactions.
Commissioner Victor reiterated the commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to combatting crime and ensuring the safety of all residents. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
Acknowledging the support received, Victor expressed gratitude to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as well as sister security agencies, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, and Community Policing volunteers for their contributions to maintaining peace and harmony in the state.
