Linda Ikeji Slammed With N30 Million Damages In NBM Libel Case: Court Orders Public Apology and Retraction

A High Court, Effurum Division in Delta State, has slammed a N30 million damages against blogger, Linda Ikeji over her libelous on the activities of the NEO BLACK MOVEMENT (NBM) aka BLACK Axe.

The court declared in the suit no. EHC/210/2021, the defendant publication of Thursday, November 7th, 2019, posted and published on her online Linda Ikeji’s blog captioned “PHOTOS OF ‘BLACK AXE’ CULTISTS DONATING IRON SHELTER TO TRAFFIC POLICE IN OSUN” and “THESE VIRAL PHOTOS SHOW MEMBERS OF THE DREADED CULT GROUP, NEO BLACK MOVEMENT OF AFRICA AKA BLACK AXE, DONATING IRON SHELTER TO TRAFFIC POLICE IN OSUN STATE AND THEY ALL LOOKED HAPPY” amounts to libel.

Ikeji who is the defendant was also ordered by the court to write a letter of apology that will be published in her blog as well as in a national daily.

The court presided over by Justice Roli Harriman also retrained the blogger, her agent, privies or any other person from any further false or damaging publication against the claimant.

The claimant had in the suit, prayed for a declaration that the defendant’s online publication of Thursday, November 7th, 2019, posted and published on her online Linda Ikeji’s blog captioned “PHOTOS OF ‘BLACK AXE’ CULTISTS DONATING IRON SHELTER TO TRAFFIC POLICE IN OSUN” and “THESE VIRAL PHOTOS SHOW MEMBERS OF THE DREADED CULT GROUP, NEO BLACK MOVEMENT OF AFRICA AKA BLACK AXE, DONATING IRON SHELTER TO TRAFFIC POLICE IN OSUN STATE AND THEY ALL LOOKED HAPPY” amounts to libel. 

An order of this Honorable Court awarding the sum of N1, 000, 000, 000. 00 (One Billion Naira) only to the claimants being special and, general damages against the defendant. 

An order of this Honorable Court directing the defendant to write a letter of apology and retraction published and given same prominence and circulation in the defendant’s online Linda Ikeji’s Blog and a widely circulated national daily newspaper in Nigeria.
