Minister Under Tinubu Advises Kwankwaso to Withhold His Opinion on Rivers Emergency Rule

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has strongly criticized Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for opposing the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The minister maintained that the emergency rule was crucial for maintaining law and order in Rivers State, which has been grappling with prolonged political instability. He also lauded the National Assembly for swiftly approving the President’s decision, commending lawmakers for prioritizing national security over partisan interests.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Seyi Olorunsola, Ata asserted that the current legislature is composed of experienced and competent individuals who swiftly assess security briefs to prevent crises from escalating—unlike Kwankwaso, whom he accused of passivity during his tenure in the Senate.

He further praised lawmakers from Kano and other northern states for recognizing the significance of national stability over political affiliations.

Ata did not hold back in his criticism of Kwankwaso’s political legacy, accusing him of fostering a culture of political intimidation during his time as Governor of Kano State. He alleged that Kwankwaso repeatedly undermined legislative independence and the rule of law.

Furthermore, Ata advised Kwankwaso to focus on resolving the ongoing crisis within the Kano Emirate Council, which he claimed had been worsened by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, a political protégé of Kwankwaso.

Condemning Kwankwaso’s alleged interference in the Kano Emirship dispute, Ata criticized the Kano State government’s repeated disregard for court rulings.

Concluding his remarks, Ata reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s leadership, commending his decisive approach to governance. He urged Kwankwaso to adopt a more constructive role in national discourse rather than making statements that, according to him, undermine national unity and security.
