In a recent interview with BBC Hausa Service, he compared it to a regular leave grant provided to employees during their vacation.
Mr. Ndume expressed his displeasure with Senate President Godswill Akpabio for disclosing the details of the holiday allowance, which caused unnecessary public outcry.
According to him, the N2 million was given to each senator, and there’s nothing unusual or extraordinary about it. He noted that the controversy was sparked by Akpabio’s comments, making it seem as if the senators received an extraordinary or excessive sum.
The chief whip further remarked that all senators received the same N2 million allowance, and he questioned why there was so much fuss over it. He stated that the reaction was disproportionate to the reality of the situation.
He criticized Akpabio for portraying the allowance as something special, leading to the controversy.
In response to Akpabio’s remarks, Ndume expressed his frustration, describing the Senate President’s statement as unbecoming of an elder.
He revealed that there are discussions among other senators to take serious action against Akpabio if he continues to make such unguarded statements, particularly if he portrays the senators as being treated like children. T
his suggests a growing dissatisfaction within the Senate over the way the matter has been handled, and there may be consequences for Akpabio’s actions.
