NiMet Warns Of Incoming Storms And Strong Winds Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather advisory indicating that several parts of Nigeria may experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and potential disruptions to daily activities on Monday.

According to Ireporter Online, the agency disclosed the forecast via its official platform on Sunday, noting that most areas are expected to begin the day with hot and sunny conditions before a shift in weather patterns later in the day.

In the northern region, the prevailing morning heat is anticipated to transition into isolated thunderstorms as the day unfolds, with locations such as Taraba State likely to witness brief weather fluctuations accompanied by gusty winds.

For the North-Central zone, NiMet indicated that while the day may start on a calm and warm note, stormy conditions could develop later. Some states are expected to experience rainfall, while others may encounter strong winds with minimal precipitation. Affected areas include Niger State, Kwara State, Benue State, Kogi State, Nasarawa State, and the Federal Capital Territory.

In the southern region, more intense storm activity is projected as the day progresses. Residents in states such as Lagos State, Ogun State, Oyo State, Enugu State, Anambra State, Rivers State, and Delta State may experience rainfall, lightning, and conditions capable of disrupting outdoor activities.

The agency urged residents to take precautionary measures ahead of the anticipated weather changes, including securing loose objects that could be displaced by strong winds and exercising caution while driving due to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions during rainfall. It also warned against remaining in flood-prone areas during heavy downpours and advised seeking safe shelter during lightning events.

Additionally, airlines were encouraged to obtain regular weather updates from NiMet offices at airports to ensure safe and efficient flight operations.
