A statement released on Sunday by the NJC’s Director of Information, Soji Oye, firmly denied the legitimacy of the false letter. The fabricated document was titled ‘Order of Seniority of Judges of the High Court of Kebbi State and recommendation of Justice Umar Abubakar as the substantive Chief Judge of Kebbi State.’
The letter purported to suggest that, under a specific section of the existing law of Kebbi State from 1996, the state Governor had the authority to determine the seniority of judges, and the National Judicial Council lacked the power to counter or reverse the Governor’s decision.
The NJC urged the general public to disregard the fabricated letter and its content. Furthermore, the Council has taken action by reporting this unfortunate incident to the appropriate security agencies.
The goal is to thoroughly investigate and apprehend whoever is responsible for this reprehensible act.
