The APC New Media Directorate vehemently condemns the recent and shocking decision by Governor Godwin Obaseki to revoke the land belonging to the late Captain Hosa Okunbor. This egregious act of vindictiveness not only dishonors the memory of one of Edo State’s most esteemed sons but also underscores Obaseki’s continued misuse of authority for personal vendettas.

Captain Hosa Okunbor, a towering figure in Edo State’s economic landscape, dedicated much of his life to the development and prosperity of the region. His farmland, which was set aside to contribute further to the state’s economic stability, has now been unjustly seized without any prior notice or due process. This land, acquired legally and intended for productive use, has been subjected to a revocation driven by Obaseki’s deep-seated animosity towards Okunbor.

This revocation is not merely an administrative error but a deliberate and cruel act of malice. Governor Obaseki’s actions reflect a disturbing pattern of behavior aimed at dismantling the legacy of those he perceives as adversaries. The decision is a stark reminder of Obaseki’s propensity for using his gubernatorial powers to settle personal scores, a practice that has long been criticized and condemned by many.

The Land Use Act of 1978, which governs land ownership and revocation in Nigeria, stipulates that land can only be revoked for overriding public purposes. Captain Okunbor’s farmland had a renewable tenure of 99 years, and there is no justifiable reason under the Act for its revocation. This move, therefore, appears to be a blatant disregard for legal standards and a direct attack on the legacy of a man who contributed significantly to the state.

The APC New Media Directorate calls upon all Edo State citizens to recognize this act as part of a broader pattern of Obaseki’s governance—a pattern marked by personal vendettas and the abuse of public office. We urge the public to stand against such misuse of authority and demand justice for the late Captain Okunbor. This travesty will be rigorously challenged in court, and we will seek international attention to expose this gross injustice.

We also call on the Attorney General of Edo State, Oluwole Uzzi, to uphold the rule of law and ensure that justice is served. It is imperative that those in power respect legal processes and cease using their positions for personal retribution.
