Party In Crisis” – Kwankwaso Reacts To Alleged Move From ADC To NDC Or PRP

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dismissed reports claiming he has finalized plans to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that no conclusive decision has been made بشأن his political future or that of his allies.

According to a statement shared via his official X account, the former governor confirmed that consultations are ongoing with key political figures, including leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), as part of efforts to determine the most viable path forward. He explained that the discussions are aimed at safeguarding democratic interests amid growing uncertainties within his current party.

Kwankwaso attributed the ongoing consultations largely to the protracted leadership crisis within the ADC. He noted that a recent ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which upheld the leadership of David Mark while sending aspects of the dispute back to a lower court, has further complicated the party’s stability, leaving it in what he described as a precarious condition.

He also referenced a judgment by the Federal High Court of Nigeria that nullified the party’s recent convention, alongside a move by the Attorney General of the Federation to seek the deregistration of the ADC. Drawing parallels with his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Kwankwaso said similar legal pressures had previously made continued participation untenable.

The former governor emphasized that the consultations are broad-based and involve multiple stakeholders, assuring that a final decision will be announced in due course through appropriate channels.

Addressing speculations surrounding the 2027 presidential election, Kwankwaso clarified that he has neither declared his candidacy nor endorsed any aspirant. He highlighted his track record of prioritizing party unity and national interest, recalling his support for Muhammadu Buhari after finishing second in the 2014 presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as his backing of Atiku Abubakar following the 2019 presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Kwankwaso further clarified that his absence from recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to prior personal engagements, which he said had been duly communicated to party leadership.

He concluded by assuring that any definitive position regarding his political direction would be formally disclosed at the appropriate time.
