Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even as he acknowledged that more defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) are likely.

Saraki, who now chairs the PDP’s reconciliation committee, disclosed this during an interaction with journalists on Wednesday in Ilorin, Kwara State.

While highlighting efforts to mend internal divisions, Saraki admitted the party has been plagued by deep-rooted challenges since the build-up to the 2023 presidential election, particularly concerning unresolved tensions involving Nyesom Wike, the G-5 governors, and the party’s former presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.

He also pointed to the ongoing struggle over the position of National Secretary as a key flashpoint within the party.

Despite the hurdles, Saraki emphasized the PDP remains Nigeria’s only viable opposition platform.

“Some PDP members may still move to the ruling APC,” he stated. “But I’m optimistic that politicians from other parties will also find their way to the PDP.”

He added, “Yes, we face significant issues, but I’ve taken it upon myself to help restore stability. We are seeing positive responses from members willing to reconcile. I want to reassure our supporters across the country—we’re committed to rescuing and repositioning the PDP.”
