Ambassador Ibrahim Zakari, passed away just hours after his father’s burial.

Ambassador Zakari, who served as NIA Director-General (1995–1998) and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in the 1990s, died on Sunday at the age of 81 in Abuja. His burial took place the same day in his hometown, Katsina.

Mubarak, aged 34, reportedly appeared healthy during the journey to Katsina, where he accompanied his father’s remains alongside grieving relatives. However, family sources revealed that the emotional toll of the loss overwhelmed him, leading to his untimely death shortly after the burial.

A funeral prayer for Mubarak was held on Monday at the family residence in Katsina’s GRA.

The deaths have plunged the Zakari family and the community into mourning, with many expressing shock and grief. Ambassador Zakari was highly regarded for his service to Nigeria’s intelligence and diplomacy, including spearheading anti-terrorism efforts during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
