Dr. Hadiza Ismail, TETFund’s Assistant Director of Research and Development, shared this information during a validation workshop in Abuja focused on “Strengthening Research and Innovation Funding Agencies in West Africa.”

Ismail emphasized TETFund’s dedication to establishing a science granting council in Nigeria and highlighted ongoing efforts to connect research outcomes with industry for national development.

She stated, “The Fund has thus far invested over N23 billion in approximately 912 research projects. However, this underscores the importance of our workshop—to bridge the gap between research endeavors and tangible industrial applications for Nigeria’s advancement.”

Professor Nicholas Ozor, Executive Director of the African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS), underscored the workshop’s objective of bolstering national research councils across six West African nations. He expressed concern over Nigeria’s lack of a recognized national research and innovation funding agency, which hinders the country’s ability to secure foreign grants for research initiatives.
