The Rift Deepens: APC Accuses Aregbesola’s Loyalists Of Betrayal
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed concerns over the exit of the Omoluabi Progressives, a political faction supported by former governor Rauf Aregbesola. spokesperson Kola Olabisi described the group’s announcement as irrelevant, asserting that its members had, in principle, left the party as far back as 2022.
“The so-called resignation of the Omoluabi Progressives is nothing but good riddance to bad rubbish,” Olabisi stated. “Many of these individuals had already been expelled or suspended for actions contrary to the party’s interest.”
He criticized the group as “a confused pack of rudderless political actors,” questioning the logic behind announcing a resignation after being suspended or expelled.
According to Olabisi, the members of the faction had long acted against the APC’s interests, aligning themselves with the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He accused them of attempting to destabilize the party, likening their actions to “the hand of Jacob but the voice of Esau.”
The APC spokesperson warned that the faction’s departure marked the beginning of its political downfall, asserting that their future political endeavors would end in failure. “Their exit signals the beginning of their political funeral, which will culminate in their final burial during the 2026 governorship election,” he declared.
Olabisi further accused the Omoluabi Progressives of disrespecting political elders and benefactors within the APC. He dismissed the faction as overambitious and lacking the values that define true progressives.
Quoting a Yoruba proverb, Olabisi concluded, “Whoever wants to bury his elder brother nakedly should take along his younger brother to show how he, too, will be buried at the end of his journey.”
The Omoluabi Progressives’ departure comes amidst ongoing internal divisions within the Osun APC, exacerbated by the party’s loss of the state to the PDP in the 2022 governorship election.
