Tragedy Strikes! SuperSports Crew Members And Policeman Dead Ahead Of Nigeria Vs Libya Showdown – NFF ConfirmsThe Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the tragic incident involving the fatal shooting of a SuperSport crew member and a police officer by unknown gunmen. The victims were ambushed while traveling on the Ihiala-Orlu Road in Anambra State on Tuesday, 8th October 2024, en route to cover the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.
The attack claimed the lives of a cameraman, a police officer, and the bus driver. Despite the Super Eagles securing a 1-0 victory over Libya on Friday, October 11, the loss of life overshadowed the win. In a statement issued by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, the football body expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and acknowledged the heavy emotional toll the incident had taken.
The NFF shared that the gunmen opened fire on the bus carrying SuperSport staff and security personnel. President Gusau noted, “Yes, we won the match and claimed three points, but the tragic loss of three lives prevented any real celebration, and it deeply hurts to reflect on this unfortunate event.”
