According to Ireporter Online, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns that his confidential banking information may have been compromised following a suspicious transaction into one of his private accounts.

The former Vice President, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, disclosed that an unidentified individual transferred an undisclosed amount of money into the account with the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”

Atiku maintained that neither he nor his campaign organisation requested, authorised, or had any knowledge of the individual or entity responsible for the payment, describing the circumstances surrounding the transaction as disturbing.

He explained that the affected account is strictly private and its details are not publicly available, raising questions about how an unknown person gained access to the confidential banking information.

According to the statement, the incident goes beyond his personal situation and highlights broader concerns about the security of Nigerians’ financial information.

Atiku warned that if the private banking details of a former Vice President and presidential candidate could be accessed without authorisation, the financial privacy of ordinary citizens could also be at risk.

He further expressed concern that the information may have been obtained through individuals with privileged access, stressing that such a breach, if confirmed, could expose account holders to threats from kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters and other criminal elements.

The former Vice President disclosed that security agencies had been notified of the development, describing it as one of several suspicious occurrences ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what he described as attempts to tarnish his reputation as political activities gather momentum, insisting that he remains committed to providing credible leadership and practical solutions to the country’s challenges.
