Monique Sofroniou spent £3,000 on a non-surgical procedure to enhance her buttocks by injecting one litre of filler into each cheek. However, the procedure, which took place in a hotel room in September 2022, quickly turned into a nightmare when Monique developed severe symptoms including swelling, redness, and high fever.

Rushed to the hospital, Monique was diagnosed with sepsis, a life-threatening condition resulting from infection. Despite a week-long hospitalization and multiple treatments, her condition worsened as her buttocks turned black and began oozing filler.

Further medical intervention revealed that non-dissolvable silicone, rather than the standard hyaluronic acid filler, had been used in the procedure. Monique endured excruciating pain and permanent scarring as a result of the ordeal.

In her advocacy efforts, Monique aims to raise awareness about the risks associated with such procedures and push for tighter regulations or even a ban on ‘liquid BBLs.’ She hopes that by sharing her harrowing experience, others may avoid similar traumas and unnecessary suffering.
