Zulum Appeals For Forgiveness Over Government Shortcomings
According to Ireporter Online, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has reaffirmed his loyalty to Vice President Kashim Shettima while urging residents to pray for a worthy successor ahead of the 2027 political transition. The governor made the appeal during a statewide address, in which he also sought forgiveness for any shortcomings in his administration.
Zulum called on the people of the state for understanding and reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He expressed sympathy for victims of insecurity, highlighting that their resilience remains the backbone of Borno State. The governor stressed that unity and collective prayers are vital in overcoming the challenges facing the state.
As political activities intensify, Zulum cautioned politicians against actions that could jeopardize the fragile peace in the state. He urged political aspirants and their supporters to prioritize the interest of Borno State above personal ambitions, emphasizing that the political season should not undermine the hard-earned peace.
“My dear people, as the political season intensifies, tensions may rise. But we must align our political interests with the realities of our security situation. Let us not allow politics to undermine the hard-earned peace we have built,” Zulum said.
The governor reiterated his allegiance to Vice President Shettima, stressing that his loyalty is unwavering. Since assuming office in 2019, Zulum said he has conducted himself fairly, justly, and inclusively with the entire political class. He further affirmed that he has maintained trust with political stakeholders at both state and national levels, and has never betrayed members of the national and state assemblies or other political office holders from Borno.
Zulum also issued a stern warning to individuals aiding insurgents, stating that anyone providing information, shelter, or logistics to criminal elements will be identified, tracked, and prosecuted under the law.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for releasing funds to support the Multi-National Joint Task Force and other military operations, describing the intervention as critical in sustaining the fight against insurgency. The governor also appreciated Vice President Shettima for representing the President during a recent sympathy visit to the state.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Zulum urged residents to remain united and prayerful as the state prepares for new leadership. “As we look to the future and choose a new leader for our state, I urge all citizens to pray fervently for a worthy successor. Let me remind us that power belongs to Allah and He grants it to whom He wills,” he said, warning political actors against being used to create instability and stressing the importance of preserving peace in Borno State.
