This brings the total count of his aides to 81.
In a statement released late on Monday, Chief Press Secretary Sanusi Bature conveyed that the recent appointment of 42 additional SSAs and SAs is part of the governor’s initiative to reshape the public service and involve young individuals in the administration of government affairs. The designated roles for these new appointees encompass a range of responsibilities such as Cooperative Groups, Public Mobilization for each senatorial zone, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Medical Outreach, Print Media, Publicity, Project Monitoring, Consumer Protection, Business Development, and Motor Parks.
Additional roles include oversight of areas like Markets, Street Lights, Engagement with Artists (Mawallafa), Kannywood Affairs (entertainment industry), GSM Market, Islamiyya Schools, Security, Military Affairs, Petroleum Products Marketers Affairs, Rural Women Mobilization, Women’s Enlightenment, Radio, Intergovernmental and Foreign Affairs, Girl Child Education, Special Duties I and II, Marshalls, and Party Marshalls.
Bature affirmed, “These appointments are effective immediately, and all appointees are expected to fulfill their responsibilities with the utmost commitment and dedication.”
In a separate statement introducing the appointment of 10 Special Advisers, Bature indicated that these appointments were in line with the governor’s campaign pledge to place capable individuals in key roles within his administration.
The new Special Advisers and their designated roles are as follows:
- Garba Dirbunde (Local Government Affairs)
- Wakili Aliyu Garko (Diaspora Matters)
- Air Commodore Yusha’u Salisu Tudunwada Wada, Rtd. (Joint Security Services)
- Musa Ado Tsamiya (Drainages)
- Gwani Musa Falaki (Religious Affairs II)
- Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani mni (Civil Service Matters)
- Prof. Auwalu Arzai (Higher Education)
- Ahmad Sawaba (Wildlife Conservation)
- Tajuddeen Gambo (Education)
- Baba Abubakar Umar (Private and Voluntary Schools)
Bature emphasized that these appointments were made based on merit, loyalty, and dedication to serving the people of Kano state.
On June 16, the governor had previously announced the appointment of 14 aides, consisting of seven SSAs, three SAS, and four Personal Assistants. Then, on July 18, an additional 15 individuals were chosen as Special Advisers by the Governor.
Ibrahim Waiya, the convener of the Kano Situation Room of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), commented on the situation, stating that while such appointments are not unique to the Kano state governor and the appointments themselves are not inappropriate if the appointed individuals contribute effectively to governance, the substantial number of appointments might pose challenges. He pointed out that considering their compensation in relation to the cost of governance, resources could be better utilized to improve the well-being of the general population.
