Mkhwanazi’s arrest in 2022 came after the discovery of six women’s bodies at his father’s panel-beating factory in Selby, Johannesburg.
In the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 5, 2024, the State presented its first witness, Michael Damien, the caretaker of the building where the bodies were found. Damien testified about the discovery and subsequent confrontation with the accused.
During his testimony, Damien recounted how he stumbled upon the lifeless body of a woman during a routine inspection of the building. This led to the shocking revelation of multiple bodies hidden within the premises.
Despite unsuccessful negotiations for a plea and sentence agreement, Mkhwanazi pleaded not guilty to the charges but admitted to certain aspects of the crimes, including the killing of the victims and obstruction of justice by concealing their bodies.
While denying accusations of rape, Mkhwanazi claimed that any sexual encounters were consensual, with disputes arising over payment.
The case continues today, as the court delves deeper into the harrowing details of the alleged crimes, shedding light on a disturbing series of events that have shaken the community to its core.
