Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has announced plans for a special prayer and remembrance gathering to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to reports, Ahmad revealed that the event would take place on Monday, July 13, as family members, associates, friends and supporters gather to honour Buhari’s life, leadership and contributions to Nigeria.

In a statement shared on his official account, Ahmad said the gathering would serve as an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of the late former president, whom he described as a leader committed to serving the country with discipline, integrity and patriotism.

He noted that Buhari’s role in Nigeria’s political history and his contributions to national development would continue to remain significant, adding that his impact would not be forgotten.

Ahmad explained that prayers and moments of reflection would form part of the remembrance ceremony, with attendees seeking divine mercy for the late president and offering prayers for comfort and strength for his family, loved ones and the nation.

He prayed that Allah would forgive Buhari’s shortcomings, grant him eternal peace in Al-Jannah Firdaus, and continue to bless those he left behind.

Muhammadu Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82, following a prolonged illness in a London medical facility. His remains were later returned to Nigeria, where he was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. In 2015, he made history by becoming the first opposition candidate in the country to defeat a sitting president in a general election. He was re-elected in 2019 and completed his second term in office in 2023.

The planned remembrance event is expected to attract members of Buhari’s family, former aides, political allies and supporters who will gather to pay tribute and reflect on his years of service and enduring legacy.
