Should Provision Of Basic Amenities Be Attributed To Good Governance?

The unavailability of basic amenities such as consistent electricity, efficient security, competent healthcare service, adequate schools, good roads and water amongst others, has blurred our vision of what should be really attributed to good governance.

This lack has handicapped the growth and development of Nigeria, for it has become the basis for policy statements and political party manifestos, how convenient; whereas it should be a thing of the past. Nigeria being the “giant of Africa”, has the largest population in the continent with an estimated 206.1 million people, over 250 ethnic groups and over 500 spoken languages.

A country as noteworthy as Nigeria, that gained its independence over 61 years ago should not be battling issues of basic amenities, neither should such issues be the cornerstone of good governance.
This begs the question, should Nigerians continue to place so much attention on the elected official’s ability to make available basic infrastructures for its citizens?
