The protest, which erupted on Monday, February 5, 2024, saw enraged residents of Minna voicing their grievances against the crippling economic conditions under the Bola Tinubu administration, barricading the Minna-Bida Road at Kpakungu Roundabout.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the protesters, led by Aisha Jibrin, persisted in their obstruction despite attempts by law enforcement and government officials to quell the unrest. Resorting to violence, the protesters attacked police officers with an array of weapons, prompting the intervention of the police.
During the crackdown, the police arrested Aisha Jibrin, along with two other women and 22 other individuals suspected of instigating and participating in the disruptive demonstration. A cache of weapons and contraband, including knives, sticks, and narcotics, was confiscated from the suspects.
Despite claiming ignorance of the illegality of their actions, Aisha Jibrin and the other suspects will face charges for their involvement in the protest. The Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, emphasized the importance of lawful conduct and discouraged citizens from taking matters into their own hands, urging them to seek proper channels for addressing grievances.
