According to Ireporter Online, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over what he described as a suspicious credit transaction into one of his private bank accounts, questioning how unknown individuals obtained his confidential banking details.

The alarm was made public in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, who disclosed that the transaction was received from an individual or entity unknown to the former Vice President.

Shaibu stated that the payment carried the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” despite the fact that neither Atiku nor his campaign organisation requested, authorised or had prior knowledge of such a transaction.

The statement stressed that the account involved is strictly private and its details are not publicly available, raising concerns about the security of confidential banking information.

According to Atiku’s camp, the unexplained transaction has prompted serious questions about how sensitive financial details belonging to a private citizen, particularly a prominent political figure, could have been accessed without consent.

The former Vice President’s team argued that if the banking information of a former Vice President and presidential candidate could be compromised, then the financial privacy of ordinary Nigerians may also be at risk.

It further expressed fears that the information may have been obtained through individuals with privileged access to confidential records, warning that such a breach, if confirmed, could expose account holders to criminal threats including kidnapping, fraud, terrorism and other security risks.

The statement noted that relevant security agencies and the Nigerian public had been informed about the development, describing it as another suspicious incident occurring ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku’s camp also urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what it described as attempts to tarnish the ADC candidate’s reputation as political activities intensify across the country.

It maintained that the former Vice President remains committed to presenting practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges and providing credible leadership despite what it called repeated attempts at character assassination.
