BREAKING: NNPCL Makes Important Announcement Amid Fuel Price Hike Protest (DETAILS)

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced on Monday its plans to continue and expand aggressive gas development and transportation projects to achieve affordable and clean energy in the country.

This move aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) seven, which aims to find a balance for the energy trilemma.

Mele Kyari, the NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, made this disclosure during the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Annual International Conference & Exhibition (NAICE) 2023 held in Lagos.

He emphasized the importance of balancing energy accessibility, affordability, and sustainability in Africa, particularly in Nigeria.

Kyari stated that achieving this balance requires a multi-stakeholder approach involving the government, private sector, civil society, host communities, and the public.

He mentioned that Nigeria has witnessed a strategic transformation in its energy industry, with a focus on gas development and infrastructure to increase energy accessibility.

He highlighted Nigeria’s significant natural gas reserves and plans to use gas as a transition fuel to drive cleaner and more affordable energy. While acknowledging the importance of alternative energy sources like solar and wind, he noted that their technology limitations currently prevent them from fully meeting the country’s energy demands.

Kyari called for collaboration among industry stakeholders and professional bodies to ensure the provision of affordable, clean, and efficient energy options to the nation’s 200 million citizens. He stressed the need for security in energy operations and the importance of investing in resilient energy systems to support sustainable socio-economic development.
