Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended from the Senate for six months after accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of s3xual harassment. Following her suspension, she sought intervention from global democratic institutions, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

In a letter signed by CNPP Deputy National Publicity Secretary James Ezema and CNCSOs National Secretary Ali Abacha, the coalition urged the UN to recognize the protests against her as part of a broader campaign to silence female politicians.

The letter emphasized the need for the protection of women in Nigerian politics, citing international conventions such as the Convention on the Political Rights of Women (CPRW) and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

“We trust that the United Nations will act decisively to uphold justice, protect women in Nigerian politics, and send a clear message that the voices of women will not be silenced by intimidation or disregard for the rule of law,” the coalition stated.
