Come Back To Your Godson – Fresh Twist As Labour Party’s Governorship Candidate Itubo Sends Message To Wike

“I’m using this medium to call on the FCT minister to come back to his godson (Fubara) so that they can be able to mend their fences and move forward,” Itubo said on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

The Labour Party (LP) candidate emphasized that if the ongoing crisis is not promptly addressed, it will have the greatest impact on the people of the state, depriving them of the benefits of democracy.

Itubo, who has engaged in discussions with Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealed that she withdrew her petition against the governor’s election at the Supreme Court in a bid to promote peace. She explained that this decision was made “due to the volatile and tense nature in Rivers State.”

“You can’t say you want peace and you are still in court,” she said, adding that “Sir Fubara is a democrat and pro-workers and that is why I am doing this.”

Over the past three months, Rivers State has become a stage for the absurd, with the state House of Assembly transforming into a metaphorical “boxing ring.”

The conflict between Wike and Fubara has resulted in a schism among lawmakers in the House, leading 27 of them to defect from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a party in which Wike currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This feud has given rise to parallel legislative sessions, a plot to impeach the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a series of resignations by pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet. Despite interventions by President Bola Tinubu and other elder statesmen, the political turbulence engulfing the oil-rich South-South state shows no signs of abating.
