Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention since June 2021 after being re-arrested in Kenya and subjected to extraordinary rendition during the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at a tribute event for late Nigerian Senator Ifeanyi Ubah on Monday, Okorocha appealed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio to help secure Kanu’s release from the Federal Government.

On his Instagram page, Cubana Chiefpriest joined the call, highlighting that many Igbos have been unable to visit their hometowns for almost five years. He emphasized that Kanu’s release is crucial for restoring peace to the region, which has witnessed significant loss of lives and property.

He wrote, “@senator_akpabio, these pleas from Owelle Ndi Igbo are all we ask for our dear in-law. Let OHAMADIKE Ndi Igbo, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, come back home soon. It’s been almost five years since we’ve had access to our hometown, and only his release can restore peace to our region. We’ve lost too many lives and properties. We need to rebuild the Southeast as soon as possible. Please, help us.”
