The commencement of diesel sales by Dangote Petroleum Refinery, valued at $20 billion, has triggered a positive impact on diesel prices, which have seen a substantial decrease from approximately N1,700 per litre to around N1,350 in several regions. Oil marketers registered with the refinery have begun purchasing diesel in large quantities, with each marketer acquiring a minimum of one million litres since the sales began.
Officials from the Dangote plant and oil dealers have confirmed that the price of diesel now ranges between N1,225 and N1,300 per litre, depending on the volume purchased. This price reduction brings much-needed respite to consumers and businesses, particularly those heavily reliant on diesel for operations.
Furthermore, there is anticipation surrounding the refinery’s plans to introduce Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, into the domestic market by May this year. This move is expected to further stabilize fuel prices and improve accessibility for consumers nationwide.
Abubakar Maigandi, the National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, affirmed the positive impact of Dangote Refinery’s diesel sales on the market. He highlighted that the availability of diesel from the refinery has already led to a noticeable decline in prices, offering relief to consumers.
Dr. Ralph Arokoyo, the Chief Executive of AF Ralph Oil and Gas Ventures, also corroborated the positive effects of Dangote Refinery’s diesel sales, emphasizing the significant reduction in prices witnessed across various locations in Nigeria. He expressed optimism that further price reductions could be expected in the coming weeks as more products from the refinery reach the market.
The initiation of diesel sales by Dangote Refinery marks a significant step towards enhancing fuel availability and affordability in Nigeria. With ongoing efforts to expand product offerings, including the introduction of petrol to the market, Dangote Refinery is poised to play a crucial role in addressing energy needs and supporting economic growth in the country.
