Edwin Clark Criticizes Tinubu For Alleged Injustice Against Igbos In GovernmentAbuja, Nigeria – Edwin Clark, a prominent leader of the Ijaw Nation, has penned a scathing letter to President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of perpetuating injustice against the Igbo ethnic group during his administration.
Clark’s letter drew parallels between Tinubu’s governance and that of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, alleging discriminatory practices that sidelined the Igbo community. He pointed out that under Buhari’s tenure, the Southeast region was notably excluded from key federal appointments, including the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) board, despite its status as an oil-producing region.
Furthermore, Clark criticized the allocation of a $22.7 billion loan where the Southeast received less than 1% of the funds for infrastructure projects, contrasting sharply with allocations to other regions. He also highlighted disparities in ministerial appointments, noting a significant underrepresentation of Igbo ministers compared to their counterparts from the Southwest.
Calling for immediate action, Clark urged Tinubu to initiate the restructuring of Nigeria as a crucial step towards equitable governance. He emphasized the need to implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference Report, which proposed extensive reforms across various sectors of Nigerian society.
In conclusion, Clark rallied the Igbo community to assert their rights through legitimate democratic means, stressing the importance of addressing historical grievances and fostering national unity.
The letter underscores ongoing tensions and calls for fairness in governance, resonating with broader discussions on ethnic representation and political inclusivity in Nigeria.
