Former Katsina PDP Chairman Dumps Party, Joins ADC Ahead of 2027 Elections

The former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State, Hon. Salisu Lawal Uli, has formally parted ways with the party and pledged allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the Coalition of Nigeria Political Groups.

Uli’s resignation, dated July 2, 2025, signals a significant setback for the PDP in Katsina, as defections continue to mount ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his resignation letter, Uli decried the party’s leadership approach since 2022, alleging a complete breakdown of internal discipline, ideological focus, and accountability. He accused certain individuals within the party of acting above reproach.

“Signs began to manifest that the PDP’s collapse was imminent when some members began to see themselves as demigods, beyond discipline, no matter the level of atrocities they committed,” Uli wrote.

He expressed regret over what he described as the party’s deviation from its founding principles and stated that the PDP no longer represented the ideals it stood for at inception in 1998.

Assuring his followers of his continued political engagement, Uli declared that the ADC offers a more disciplined, credible, and ideologically driven alternative for advancing Nigeria’s democratic development.

“My commitment to serve the people and uphold democratic principles remains unchanged. I will continue this mission under the ADC, where genuine opposition thrives,” he stated.

Naija News also recalls that the PDP in Katsina State has been facing a wave of internal dissent. Recently, a faction loyal to the former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, announced its departure from the party. The group includes 287 former political aspirants at various levels, including House of Assembly, Chairmanship, and Councilorship.

Alhaji Yasir Ibrahim, who chairs the Local Government Chairmanship Aspirants’ Forum, emphasized that the PDP had lost its footing as a viable opposition in the state. “The PDP is no longer an opposition party in Katsina. Hence, our decision to join the coalition for a stronger front,” he said.

Meanwhile, Inuwa has openly accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of colluding with APC leaders to destabilize the PDP. Speaking at a political event in Katsina, Inuwa declared, “We will not fold our arms and allow a single individual to control a party with thousands of committed members in Katsina. We will resist all forms of external manipulation. Justice and equity must prevail.”

He pledged to spearhead a unified opposition coalition capable of challenging both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and elements within the PDP allegedly undermining the party’s integrity.
