He Never Treated Me That Way” – Hanga Reveals Why He Fell Out With Kwankwaso
Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, Rufai Sani Hanga, has disclosed that his political relationship with former Kano State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, deteriorated following disagreements over his empowerment programmes and growing political activities.
Hanga made the revelation during an interview with online television platform Dan’uwa Rano TV, where he recounted the events that allegedly created tension between him and Kwankwaso.
According to the senator, the disagreement became pronounced after he organised a large empowerment programme for constituents in which vehicles, rice, fertiliser, grinding machines and other items were distributed to beneficiaries.
Hanga explained that the event was held at a venue associated with Kwankwaso, who had initially indicated his intention to attend the programme. However, he said the former governor appeared displeased upon arriving at the venue.
The senator recalled that Kwankwaso asked those present to observe prayers before leaving the venue, but did not return afterward. Hanga said the empowerment programme nevertheless continued in the presence of several prominent political figures, including former Kano Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Wada Sagagi, Batayya, Nasiru Gawuna and members of the National Assembly.
Hanga said Kwankwaso later confronted him over the event, allegedly questioning why the senator had organised such a large-scale distribution without involving him.
The lawmaker said he apologised and expressed his willingness to resolve the misunderstanding. He, however, maintained that Kwankwaso had previously sent representatives to request that certain individuals be included in his empowerment initiatives.
He recalled an instance where Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso allegedly approached him to provide a vehicle for a beneficiary from Shanono Local Government Area. Hanga said he eventually purchased the vehicle after being informed that the beneficiary’s previous car had been damaged in an accident during Kwankwaso’s political campaign.
According to Hanga, the incident marked a turning point in their relationship, as he began to feel that the mutual respect that had previously existed between them was no longer intact.
He said Kwankwaso’s reaction to his empowerment programmes and increasing public profile contributed significantly to the deterioration of their political relationship.
“According to Hanga, Kwankwaso was unhappy with the scale of his distributions and empowerment activities, which he believed had contributed to the growing tension between them.
The senator also linked his failure to secure a return ticket to the strained relationship, alleging that Kwankwaso, whom he referred to as the “Jagora” or leader of the political movement, was unhappy with his performance and political activities.
According to Ireporter Online, Hanga’s account provides further insight into the political disagreement between the two Kano politicians, particularly the tensions surrounding political influence, empowerment initiatives and the distribution of political support.
