Just In: Governor Umo Eno Sets-Up Verification Teams To Audit Local Government Projects In Akwa Ibom (Details)

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has established verification teams to authenticate the projects carried out by the local government Transition Committee chairmen and their members across the state’s 31 council areas.

This initiative was announced in a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, and shared with journalists in Uyo on Tuesday. The teams, comprised predominantly of commissioners and a few House members, are expected to submit their findings by Wednesday, June 5.

The statement partially reads, “His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the appointment of the following government officials as members of the Verification Team to authenticate the projects executed by the respective Chairmen and Members of the 31 Local Government Transition Committee during their six-month tenure in office.”

Following the expiration of the tenures of local government chairmen and councillors six months ago, Governor Eno had appointed Transition Committees to oversee council affairs until elections are held. With an increase in local government allocations over the past six months, the governor demanded accountability from council leaders regarding the substantial government funds they received.

Last month, Governor Umo Eno conducted visits to all local government areas to assess their projects firsthand. Dissatisfied with the progress, he has now formed verification teams to report their findings to the Office of the Governor, which will inform his subsequent decisions.

The initiative underscores the governor’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds and the execution of local government projects.
