This gathering comes shortly after the party’s call for protection from further aggression by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Last Friday, the NLC Political Commission declared Julius Abure no longer the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), criticizing his handling of the situation surrounding the party’s national secretariat.

In response, the NLC urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to abstain from participating in the Labour Party’s national convention, citing concerns over legality and compliance with court orders.

The NLC’s solicitors, Falana and Falana’s Chambers, issued a letter to INEC, dated March 22, 2024, urging the electoral body to refrain from endorsing what they deemed an illegal convention organized by Julius Abure and his associates.

Expressing discontent with the situation, the NLC emphasized the importance of upholding justice and the rule of law, threatening legal action if INEC disregards their demand.

The ongoing convention in Anambra signifies a crucial moment for the Labour Party as it navigates through internal disputes while striving to maintain its political integrity and relevance.
