Initially scheduled to take place on March 27, 2024, at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State, the convention has now been relocated to Nnewi, Anambra State. This decision comes amidst concerns of potential disruption at the previous venue.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the party’s national Chairman, Julius Abure, and secretary, Umar Ibrahim, informed the commission about the change in venue.

The letter stated, “We write to kindly refer you to our letter on the above subject matter in which our National Convention rescheduled for 27th of March 2024 at the International Conference Center Umuahia, Abia State. We are, however, constrained to change the venue due to the nonavailability of the proposed venue on the scheduled date. We kindly request you to be present and monitor the convention.”

A senior party official disclosed that concerns over potential disruptions, particularly by the ‘Obidients’, prompted the relocation from Abuja to Anambra State. Additionally, holding the convention in Abuja posed challenges for the national Chairman’s re-election bid.

Despite rumors suggesting that the venue change was motivated by fears of disruption, the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, confirmed that this was not the case.
