In an early Saturday statement, the Dangote Group clarified that the refinery has commenced the production of diesel and aviation fuel but has not yet produced Petroleum Motor Spirit (petrol).
Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of Dangote Group, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement in realizing the project.
He also thanked various entities, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and the Nigerian people for their support.
Dangote acknowledged President Tinubu’s visionary leadership and attention to details, stating, “This is a big day for Nigeria. We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone.
This is an important achievement for our country as it demonstrates our ability to develop and deliver large capital projects. This is a game changer for our country.”
The refinery, situated in the Dangote Industries Free Zone, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria, has a daily crude oil refining capacity of 650,000 barrels.
The facility can load 2,900 trucks daily at its truck-loading gantries, and the produced products adhere to Euro V specifications. The refinery design aligns with global emission norms such as those set by the World Bank, US EPA, European standards, and DPR emission/effluent norms.
While the production of petrol is delayed due to the incremental supply of crude oil, the facility has received six shipments of one million barrels each.
Nigerians are optimistic that the Dangote Refinery will contribute to a reduction in the prices of petroleum products.
