Nigerian Navy Raises Alarm Over Economic Loss From Illegal Oil Operations
The Nigerian Navy has expressed concern over the significant economic losses resulting from illegal oil bunkering and the vandalism of oil pipelines in riverine communities across Nigeria. Lakan emphasized the detrimental impact of crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism on the nation’s economy and its citizens, calling for an end to these illicit activities. He appealed to those involved in illegal oil operations to seek alternative means of livelihood, stressing the negative consequences of their actions.
During the tour, naval personnel uncovered a large illegal site in the Okolomade community, featuring three tanks used for storing illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel. Lakan pledged to hand over the seized products to the appropriate authorities for further investigation, aiming to curb the prevalence of illegal oil operations in Nigeria.
Under the directives of the Chief of Naval Staff and Operation Delta Safe, NNS SOROH continues to patrol areas within its operational jurisdiction to combat illegal oil activities effectively. Lakan assured Nigerians of the Navy’s commitment to addressing these issues and urged them to trust in their efforts to eliminate such illegalities.
