NIM Champions World-Class Management At 2025 Lecture, Honors National Leaders

According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting world-class management practices during its 2025 Management Day Lecture held at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos. The annual event, held in honor of global management pioneer Peter Drucker, highlighted NIM’s leadership in driving excellence, ethical governance, and sustainability across Nigeria’s public and private sectors.

Themed “Sustainable and Purpose-Driven Organisations: ESG, Circular Economy and Beyond,” the lecture served as a platform for exploring the future of organisational leadership in Nigeria. Commodore Abimbola Ayuba (rtd), President and Chair of the Council of NIM, described the institute as a national symbol and custodian of management excellence. He called on the Federal Government to declare November 19 as a national day celebrating the management profession, emphasizing that strong management practices are essential for building resilient institutions and a prosperous nation.

Delivering the keynote address, Niyi Yusuf, Managing Director of Verraki Partners and Chair of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), highlighted the rising global importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and the circular economy. He noted that the global ESG investment market, currently valued at US$35.48 trillion, is projected to reach US$167.49 trillion by 2034, signaling sustainability as a critical driver of organisational relevance. While acknowledging progress in Nigeria’s governance codes, Yusuf stressed the need for stronger enforcement and coordination. He further emphasized that ESG should be seen as a long-term investment in organisational longevity, stating, “Profit sustains an organisation, but purpose sustains a nation.”

A key highlight of the event was the conferment of Fellowships on distinguished professionals meeting the institute’s rigorous criteria. Notably, the institute awarded its first-ever Honorary Fellowship to His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, in recognition of his exceptional leadership and contributions to national development. Additionally, the Honorary Fellowship granted to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was received on his behalf by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Hundeyin.
