The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially ratified Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary, ending weeks of internal wrangling and factional disputes.

This confirmation was announced by the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, following the conclusion of a high-level NEC meeting held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists after the closed-door session, Damagum stated, “Let it be clear that the NEC has affirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of our great party.” He added that the decision was one of the major resolutions adopted at the meeting, which drew attendance from top party stakeholders nationwide.

Anyanwu’s affirmation comes at a critical time for the PDP, which has faced mounting internal tensions over leadership legitimacy. Various factions had laid claim to the National Secretary position, fueling uncertainty within the party’s ranks.

Tensions further escalated earlier in the day when security operatives ejected two individuals from the NEC Hall at Wadata Plaza. The incident disrupted the caucus meeting and led to confusion as protocol officers claimed the ejected persons had “no business” being at the event.

Despite the chaos, the NEC meeting proceeded, culminating in the endorsement of Senator Anyanwu as National Secretary—a move widely seen as an effort to restore order and unity within the opposition party.
