Speaking on X Space hosted by Parallel Facts, Obi explained that his decision to skip the convention was due to the lack of wide consultation by the party leadership, led by Julius Abure, with key stakeholders.

Asserting his commitment to the broader goal of nation-building, Obi emphasized that his priority lies in shaping a new Nigeria rather than establishing a new Labour Party. He underscored the importance of adhering to proper procedures to salvage the party.

“We promised to build Nigeria, we did not promise to build a New Labour Party,” Obi emphasized.

Additionally, Obi expressed support for the establishment of a structure for the ‘Obidient’ movement, highlighting the global precedent of movements aligning with political blocs as part of the political process.
