In December, the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, responsible for Roman Catholic doctrine, announced that priests could bless “irregular” and same-sex couples under specific conditions.

Facing criticism, particularly from some regions in Africa, Pope Francis sought to clarify the Church’s stance during an audience with members of the dicastery.

He emphasized that these blessings did not necessitate moral perfection and were not an endorsement of the union itself but a blessing for the individuals who requested it. The Pope stressed the importance of considering context, sensitivities, and appropriate ways to conduct such blessings.

The original declaration outlined that priests could only perform blessings for same-sex couples, divorcees, or unmarried couples in “non-ritualized” contexts, explicitly avoiding association with weddings or civil unions.

Strong opposition to the Vatican’s move emerged in countries like Malawi, Nigeria, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Cardinal Robert Sarah, a prominent figure in the conservative camp, went as far as labeling the declaration as “heresy.”

In response to the criticism, the dicastery defended its position earlier this month, asserting the Church’s clarity on marriage as between a man and a woman and identifying homosexuality as a sin. However, it also called for “prudence and attention to the ecclesial context and to the local culture” in applying the measure.

Pope Francis, known for his efforts to foster inclusivity within the Church, has faced resistance from traditional and conservative elements since his election in 2013. The recent defense of same-sex blessings is aligned with his broader agenda to open the doors of the Church to all faithful, including the LGBTQ communities.

The ongoing dialogue within the Church reflects the tensions between progressive and conservative voices on issues related to marriage and sexuality.

Defending the indefensible! Just don’t drink poison from it’s original poison, but so long as you can pour it out into a tumbler, CONSUME ALL OF IT and wash up your glass and carefully tuck it away to it’s rack. Is it actually a prank?
EXCEPT A MAN BE BORN AGAIN, HE SHALL SURELY PERISH, both the Teacher and the taught. Instructors of the Law, shall face greater damnation as it’s written, irrespective of her or his worldly attainment.
