The Premier League has announced that it will introduce two transfer windows this summer, providing Manchester City and Chelsea with the opportunity to bolster their squads ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City are set to represent the Premier League in the tournament, which will commence on Sunday, June 15 in the United States. The Premier League’s decision to structure the transfer window in this manner ensures that these clubs can register new players during this crucial period.

FIFA allows each country to have a transfer window open for a maximum of 16 weeks per year, with four weeks allocated for the winter window and 12 weeks for the summer. In 2024, the Premier League’s transfer window opened on June 14 and closed on August 30. To accommodate the special circumstances surrounding the Club World Cup, FIFA has approved an additional window from June 1-10, enabling clubs to register new players ahead of the competition. Another registration period will run from June 27 to July 3, specifically for the knockout stages.

In addition to Manchester City and Chelsea, other prominent teams such as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal will also take part in the tournament.

To ensure fairness and maintain a level playing field, the Premier League has aligned its transfer window schedule with that of other major European leagues, which typically close at the end of August.
