Breaking: President Tinubu Has Appointed A Brigadier-General To Head The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)

This move is seen as a recognition of Olakunle’s commitment and service to the nation, with many hopeful that his leadership will bring much-needed reforms to the NYSC program. Olakunle, a native of Ileogbo near Iwo in Osun State, had previously served as Chief of Staff to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away in November 2024.

In other news, former NYSC DG Maharazu Tsiga has been released after being held captive for 22 days. A source confirmed to Channels Television on Friday that Tsiga was freed and is receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital due to security reasons. Tsiga was abducted on February 6, 2025, at his home in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State, during an attack by over 100 gunmen led by notorious bandit kingpin Babaro.

The assailants initially demanded ₦250 million for Tsiga’s release, but it is unclear whether a ransom was paid. Two people were injured during the attack, and one of the gunmen was shot by a fellow member of the gang. The attackers also killed one person and looted several homes. Despite Tsiga’s release, officials and security agencies, including the Katsina State Police Command, have yet to comment on the details of his freedom.
