Ogunleye’s decision to pledge his allegiance to Nigeria was influenced by his visit to the country in March 2024, where he was deeply impressed by Nigeria’s vibrant culture and passionate football community. This experience played a pivotal role in shaping his choice for international football.
Reflecting on his visit, Ogunleye expressed his gratitude for the recognition he’s received from Nigerian media, saying, “I’ve had some recognition from the newspapers in Nigeria, so it’s been nice to see that.” This acknowledgment has helped strengthen his bond with his Nigerian heritage.
Reports from England confirmed that Ogunleye has finalized his decision to play for Nigeria, rather than other European nations, placing him in contention for a spot on Nigeria’s Under-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in South Africa. The team earned their place in the tournament by winning the WAFU B Under-20 Championship in Togo.
Currently on a two-year scholarship with Bournemouth, Ogunleye has been a key player for the club’s Under-20 team, showcasing his versatility in midfield and impressing with his performances this season.
