Rivers Police Bust Child Trafficking Ring, Save Four Kids And Detain Two Perpetrators

The children, ranging in age from one to thirteen years, were found at a hotel in Rumukwachi, Ohio/Akpor Local Government Area. The manager of the hotel played a crucial role by alerting the authorities and helping to secure the arrest of the suspects.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Grace Iringe-Koko, the arrested woman, Esther Anthony, allegedly kidnapped the children with the intent to hand them over to a nurse named Loveth, who runs a maternity home. The hotel manager grew suspicious of Anthony’s actions and prevented her from checking out with the children, insisting that the children’s mother be present.

Esther Anthony left the hotel and returned with police officers, falsely accusing the manager of abducting the children and claiming she was threatened with a gun. However, the hotel manager reached out to the Choba Area Command, and police arrested Anthony. Further investigation revealed that Anthony had conspired with another individual, Favour, to traffick the children from Swali community in Bayelsa State. Another suspect, Purity Silas, was also arrested.

Additionally, Esther Anthony was identified by a family who claimed she had previously abducted three of their children in the Rumuodara area of Port Harcourt and sold them to Loveth. All suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crimes. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Port Harcourt, where the suspects remain in police custody.
