Say Goodbye To Long Lines: NIS Makes Online Renewal Available To Nigerians In Europe

According to Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, the initiative is designed to make passport renewal easier, saving time, reducing travel costs, and improving overall efficiency for the Nigerian diaspora. However, the system is limited to passport renewals and is not available for first-time applicants or minors.

Nandap added that Nigerians abroad can initiate passport renewal up to a year before their passports expire, ensuring a seamless process. This development is part of efforts to make life easier for Nigerians overseas, as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Immigration Service has also expanded its presence with a new passport processing facility in New York and plans for more offices in the U.S. and other countries.

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), praised the initiative, stating that it aligns with NiDCOM’s mission to improve diaspora engagement. The system has already received positive feedback in Canada and is now being expanded to Europe.
