Senate Prepares For Major Screening Of Tinubu’s Cabinet Picks Date Announced

The nominees awaiting Senate consideration and approval include: Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction), Muhammadu Dingyadi (Labour & Employment), Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu (State for Foreign Affairs), and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Industry, Trade, and Investment).

Additional nominees are Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Livestock Development), Yusuf Ata (State for Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad (State for Education).

This marks the first instance where portfolios will be attached to nominees prior to their ministerial screening.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read a letter from President Tinubu on Thursday, requesting the Red Chamber to consider the nominees for screening and confirmation.

In the letter, President Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite their review of his request. Akpabio then referred the matter to the Committee of the Whole for swift consideration.

“Distinguished colleagues, the presidential request is referred to the Committee of the Whole for prompt action,” he stated.

A principal Senate member told ThisDay that screening of the nominees is expected to start on Tuesday and may conclude by Wednesday next week. He noted, “Since the request arrived on the last day of the Senate’s sitting this week, we anticipate commencing the screening once the necessary documents for the nominees are received.”
