Shettima, Governors Set Up Panels On Crude Oil Theft, Economy (SEE MEMBERS OF COMMITTEES)
During the 138th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), which took place virtually on Thursday, the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, and Nigerian governors established committees on crude oil theft and management, as well as economic affairs.
The committees will be led by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak and his Imo State counterpart, Hope Uzodimma, respectively. The meeting involved deliberations on crucial economic matters and assessments of potential strategies to address short-term, medium-term, and long-term economic issues. This information was conveyed in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
The Economic Matters committee has been assigned the responsibility of formulating a comprehensive roadmap to address petroleum subsidy issues.

This includes establishing a framework for managing wage negotiations, exchange rates, fiscal consolidation sustainability, liquidity management, inflation, medium-term investment, growth, fiscal transparency and accountability, as well as declaring a state of emergency on food production for 2024.
The committee’s members include the Gombe State Governor representing North East, the Governors of Lagos (South West), Akwa Ibom (South-South), Anambra (South East), Niger (North Central), and Kaduna (North West). The Special Adviser to the President on NEC and Climate Change, Rukaiya El-Rufai, will serve as its Secretary.
The Crude Oil Theft and Management Committee, an existing NEC committee, has been reconstituted with Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State appointed as its chairperson. Other members include the Governor of Ogun State representing South West, the Governor of Plateau State (North Central), the Governor of Rivers (South-South), Governor of Borno (North East), Governor of Jigawa State (North West), the Governor of Abia State (South East), Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, CBN Governor, GCEO of NNPCL, NDDC Chairman, and Service Chiefs.
The secretariat for the committee will be located at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and Dr. Tope Fasua, the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, will serve on the committee.
