Shock In Rivers State: Fubara’s Leadership Under Threat Of Impeachment

Cole’s comments follow a recent Court of Appeal ruling that upheld a Federal High Court decision, nullifying the presentation and passage of the 2024 budget for Rivers State. He emphasized that this judgment places Fubara in a “dangerous political situation,” which is significantly affecting governance in the state.

The former APC gubernatorial candidate stated that the circumstances could lead to severe political repercussions for Fubara’s administration. “The governor is in a very precarious political situation. By presenting the budget back to the assembly, it effectively recognizes the assembly led by Amaewhule as the legitimate body,” Cole explained. “This means he must now navigate the potential issue of impeachment.”

Cole highlighted the complexity of the political scenario, noting that Rivers State is currently governed by different political parties: the governor is from the PDP, the House of Assembly is APC, and the local government structure is led by APP. “We have three different parties managing the state,” he remarked.

He lamented that the people of Rivers State are ultimately the ones suffering due to the political crisis, which has halted development in the region. “As it stands now, the interests of the people of Rivers are not being considered. If they were, we wouldn’t be in this situation. This entire conflict is political and revolves around a small political circle,” Cole asserted. “Currently, there is no development, and this political struggle is adversely impacting the everyday citizen.”
