What Akpabio Said Concerning Lawmakers’ Earnings Will Stun Nigerians As Senate Moves To Stop NLC Strike
Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed that the earnings of National Assembly members are inadequate to meet the extensive demands from their constituencies.
He made this statement while contributing to a debate on a motion sponsored by Abdulraman Kawu Suleiman from Kano, regarding the need to prevent an impending strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Despite the significant challenges caused by the removal of petroleum product subsidies, the Senate President urged Nigerians to be patient with the government as it takes measures to alleviate their suffering.

Abdulraman Kawu Suleiman, defending his motion, emphasized that the NLC strike could have severe consequences, crippling the country’s movement, causing commercial transport services to halt, and forcing markets, schools, and healthcare facilities to shut down. He warned that the strike could escalate tensions and result in losses that outweigh any gains achieved through the conflict.
Kawu highlighted the potential adverse impact of the NLC strike on the Nigerian economy, businesses, and educational system. He stressed that it could lead to more financial losses and tarnish the country’s reputation globally, discouraging foreign investment and study opportunities.
Following the debate, the Senate authorized its leadership to mediate between the NLC and the Federal Government in an effort to prevent the industrial action from taking place.
