Speaking at the second day of the Ministerial Sectoral Updates held at the National Press Centre in Abuja, Gaidam outlined key initiatives and accomplishments of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) under his leadership. He highlighted the collaboration to develop and implement a Revitalized Police Agenda and Transformation Roadmap, aimed at addressing current challenges and modernizing the NPF into a more proactive and efficient entity.
Key focus areas of the Renewed Hope policing vision include:
1. Infrastructure Development: Enhancing police infrastructure across the country.
2. Technical and Operational Efficiency: Boosting the technical capabilities and operational efficiency of the NPF.
3. Welfare Enhancement: Improving the welfare of NPF officers.
4. Policy Framework: Establishing a robust policy framework for policing in Nigeria.
5. Wellness of Officers: Prioritizing the health and wellness of NPF personnel.
6. Community Policing: Strengthening community policing efforts to build public trust and rebrand the NPF, thereby restoring citizens’ confidence in the force.
Gaidam enumerated several achievements over the past year:
National Criminal Data Fusion Center (NCDFC): Established to enhance crime data management.
West African Police Information System (WAPIS): Strengthened for better regional coordination.
Automated Police Specialized Services: Launched to streamline police operations.
Special Intervention Squad (SIS): Deployed to address specific security challenges.
Tactical Squads Deployment: Enhanced the deployment of tactical squads and strategic shifts towards e-policing.
Highways and Train Safety Measures: Implemented improved safety measures.
Police Academy Infrastructure: Revamped to provide better training facilities.
Community Policing and Citizen Engagement: Emphasized to foster closer cooperation between the police and the communities they serve.
The minister also noted the promotion of 3,071 education officers within the police education system, ranging from salary grade levels 17 to Level 07, who had been owed arrears for over five years. Additionally, the Police Pension Bill is currently under review to enhance the welfare of police officers.
Under Gaidam’s leadership, the Nigeria Police Veterans Foundation was established to support retired police officers, further demonstrating the commitment to the welfare of those who have served the nation in the police force.
